Helpful resources from coalition partners
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, only 19 percent of U.S. workers have paid family leave through their employers, and just 40 percent have personal medical leave through an employer-provided short-term disability program.
As a result, too many people have to choose between job and family when serious illness strikes, children are born or adopted, or a loved one urgently needs care. It doesn’t have to be this way.
America needs a national paid family and medical leave program that makes paid leave affordable for all workers and their families and brings the nation's public policies in line with the needs of the 21st century workforce and the rest of the world.
A national paid family and medical leave law would enable working people to meet their health and caregiving needs, benefit businesses, reduce economic inequality and improve economic opportunities for all.
